Exodus 14: 13-14

Notice the children of Israel. Unless God moves on their behalf, they are hopeless and doomed. And we are in the same situation. We could never be redeemed and experience abundant life unless God moved on our behalf. “Salvation is the work of The Lord.” (Jonah 2:9) The Lord promised to work on our behalf, by His grace, if we would surrender, trust, and follow Him by faith. Let’s look at God’s promise as we enter a New Year.

Would the Real Church Please Stand Up?

A Real Faith

1 Peter 1:1-9

New Testament Churches are not defined by their buildings or their outside connections.  Some of the first century churches did not even have buildings.  A real church is a called out group of people who belong to the Lord and assemble around the person and doctrine  of Christ.  The faith that the first century churches possessed was a real faith, which made a difference in not only their everyday lives, but also had an influence on those around them.  So, we will learn what real faith of a real church looks like.

II.  Real Faith Connects to a Real Heaven
(1 Peter 1:4-5)
A)  Heaven is a real place
(John 14:1-3, Revelation 21:1-4)
B)  Heaven is a reserved place
(1 Peter 1:4, Colossians 1:3-5)

III.  Real Faith Connects to a Real Help
(1 Peter 1:6-9)
A)  Help when times are heavy
(2 Corinthians 4:17-18, Romans 8:18, 1 Peter 5:10)
B)  Help when times are hard
(Job 23:10, Romans 8:35-39, Romans 8:28-31)

We’re going to begin using members to start “Street Missions”.  We’ll contact a member & then set a date for that member & a few of the addl. church members to go down the street they live on, as a way to get an “in” & be able to witness to those on their street.

Who We Are in God/Christ – Larry Sumrall

God’s mercy endures!  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.  God satisfies the longing soul & fills it with goodness.

We shouldn’t have to be told to go out and witness.  People need to hear that God is a “chain breaker”.

The only way to fail at witnessing is to not witness.

They cried out to Lord in their troubles and He saved them.
Psalm 107:1-2

1)  Pursue Jesus
2)  Exhort each other

These passages are an example or symbol.

If God were to show us a symbol or an example of our lives, what might He use?  Would it be something like the one in the above passages?

When we pray concerning revival, we need to ask God to show us personally, things in our lives in which we are weak, need strengthening, & need to grow closer & stronger in our relationship with Him.

We should get with our spouses, hold hands & pray for the Lord to show us where we are in our relationship with each other too.  No matter how much it may hurt, we need to ask God to show us the truth within our relationships.

If we are praying for change, we need to be a product of change.

Be honest!  Stop blaming everyone else, even yourself & ask Him to reveal the truth.

Proclaim God’s truth!

God is the breath of Life!

Striving Together

Ephesians 4:7-13

We must work together, assisting each other to be more like Christ.

God never meant for there to be “Lone Ranger” Christians.

Power comes from the unity of the body of believers.

Motivation of Maturity
3 Special Resources
1)  Spiritual Grace – God’s work within us.
2)  Spiritual Gifts – God’s touch on our lives, of what we can achieve.
3)  Spiritual Goals – To become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Measure of Maturity
Eph. 4:13 – Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

2 Cor. 10:12 – For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

JESUS is our role model!

Marks of Maturity & Immaturity
Eph. 4:14 – That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.

Marks of Immaturity
1)  Unstable devotion
2)  Unsure of Doctrine
3)  Unable to discern God’s purpose & path for you

Marks of Maturity
1)  Communication that has meaning, speaking the truth in love
2)  Christ centered mindset
3)  Contribute to the body – use your gifts

5 Principles
1)  Addition & connection – the whole body fitly joined together
2)  Variation – everyone has something to contribute
3)  Contribution – you shouldn’t feel like you “have” to contribute, you should “want” to.
4)  Expansion – growth
5)  Devotion – set in love

June 20, 2016 Larry Sumrall

ISAIAH 40:28-31 – Is there real purpose to life or am I just along for the ride? When you have no real purpose in life then all that is left is just the routine. True responsibility of purpose makes most men uncomfortable so they just hide behind the routine. The routine becomes their escape and excuse for settling and not going after spiritual abundant life. The routine may not be that great, but it is safe and predictable.
